Since I’m !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! these days, I thought I’d get the gear out and photograph the activity at the feeder outside my back window.

You get prettier birds than we do. Around here, there are a few robins and assorted brown birds. Perhaps the occasional goldfinch or hummingbird if we’re lucky... But sadly, no blue jays or cardinals. I suppose some of the birds of prey around here are pretty cool, though, so there’s that at least.
Also, that upside-down squirr el is majestic!

Is that last one a dove? Those are way prettier than doves in Michigan.
Nice shots

What you see are the usual suspects. We might get some Inca doves in the fall and winter. Robins, as meat eaters, won’t come to the feeder. We do get the occasional Carolina wren, tufted titmouse, or chickadees, but haven’t seen them yet. We get goldfinches and lesser goldfinches if we put out thistle seed.

As facw said, it’s a white-winged dove. They are mainly found in the south. You would have mourning doves up north. Lots of folks hunt the white wings down here.

Where I’m from we call them Morning Doves. Growing up they were always off in the woods Cooing .
All of a sudden a bout 10 years ago they moved into my current neighborhood. The cooing doesn’t bother me, i nstead it brings memories of the home I grew up in.
One m an’s t rash i s a nother m an’s t reasure.

Not sure what I’d do without my camera now. I take it everywhere, even 10 minute walks to the corner store. Therapy around my neck.
Took these yesterday.

Great shots. Are you in competition with the official FFF crosspost?

Neat. I’ve thought about taking my gear on walkabout over to our neighborhood pond.

We’re loaded with the mourning doves up here. When I was little my older sister and Mom raised ring necks and white ones and sold them to magicians.

Yeah they hunt mourning doves up here. I don’t get it. What are you getting a couple of breast nuggets?
There’s bigger stuff in my yard.

When I was little, I visited my grandmother in VT. She was a famous birder in her area, and one afternoon I looked outside and saw some mourning doves. I said, “Look Grummy! Day doves!”

I think the limit on doves is pretty high, so you can take a whole bunch and get a pretty decent meal. I suppose. I’m pretty sure there is a limit on Inca doves, though. They are much smaller, and there aren’t as prolific.

I was trying to decide how to crop it, and I went with the square because I liked how the composition worked out.

We normally have a very active birding yard with a healthy population of woodpeckers in addition to the normal fare. Since I’m not going out though we’re running low on food so rationing it for them - less birds these days now.

That’s my mask of course. It’s red on the inside too! We have many hand me down dog toys, in 25 years we have had six Frenchies.
